Was Maria truely a virgin? Was Jesus realy who he thought to be?
Some points to remember -
Maria (Meriam) was a Jew, and so was Jesus (Joshua= a name in Hebrew meaning "Saved by the Lord").
Young Maria lived in a time where a single mom was an unheard of concept, as it still is even today in some cultures.
Even these days women get slaughtered - sometimes by their own brothers or fathers- for "ruining the family honour", as occurs by muslims in some places. Today we are shocked by such barbarism, but in those far away days this was the rule in the whole region of Middle-East: an affair out of marriage would be punished with a dreadfull death penalty- death by stonning.
Well, I just know that if I were her, I'd say anything to save my skin and save the baby in my belly. Perhaps this is what she did.
How could a young woman save herself & baby from doom? I guess the sweat was pouring down her back, nights without sleep, eaten by worry, distress and terror, whilst her belly grew and secret soon could not be hidden any longer.
No money, nowhere to go, no one who'd take her in, the man who got her pregnant at the moment of lust and carefreeness had gone, abandoning her to her fate.
Perhaps Maria was a lucky to have not damaged her virgin tissue (some are flexible)? Perhaps no one checked, all liked her and wanted to believe her?
It was, after all, a very superstitious time, no TV, newspapers, radio, no sources of information apart from priests in temple, king or other local leader.
A time all craved a change. People waited a new prophet to come, expected one to arrive and save them from the hardship the conquering Roman enemy had imposed upon them.
She somehow got away with it, miracles were know to happen... after all, if sara could get pregnant with 90 years.... Maria was saved from a cruel end. She naturally had to keep up the story. Her little son grew up hearing it and believing it, after all, mama is like a godess...
Times were hard, taxes outragious, the high priests and spiritual leadership had strayed from the right way. They wanted to keep their political power, their chair. Therefore had to play up to the Roman rule, to the occupiers. They got drunk, whored, watched the live fights between men or men and lions- fights to the death, habits unholly to the Jews. They had to do as the Romans did, or others would be put in their place of rule. They were greedy, wanted to keep power.
The Romans demanded more and more taxes, people became homeless, desparate, with no salvation in sight. More and more desparation led them to theft and criminality, or simply bad health.
The Roman's appetite for fights-to-the-death entertainment, soldiers to feed their wars and slaves to send back home as gifts, required its human victimes. The supply came also from the Jewish population, causing
the destruction of homes and family units. Women & children were exiled to serve as whores and slaves, men were sent to combat the lions, whilest the lords watched amused.
Who was to hear the anguished cry of the people? No one cared about them, no one voiced their pain.
If we had this situation nowadays, we'd see many oposition leaders, guerila groups and political parties sprouting like mushrooms after rain. But 2000 years ago no one knew about communism, or socialism or democracy- to name but a few. The only way someone could have a say, maybe be heard without being killed, or perhaps make a change for the better in society was if he was a "prophet". Now, this was a very very very touchy matter!
You can imagine, anyone wanting to gain power would come skipping down the hill proclaiming to have just had a direct line with god... And how can anyone tell the truth?
Many warnings had been issued throughout the times against these "prophets of lies". The main characteristics of these would be if they tried to lead the people away from the original word of god, as his priests "know it to be"... well, that pretty much takes care of anyone who goes against the leadership, doesn't it!? It's also what has kept the Jews from being wiped out over the years: Sticking to the original version, no matter what.
Little Joshua-Jesus was deeply impressed by his mom's story and having understood himself to be the son of a god, behaved accordingly. He saw it as his respnsibility to help the weak, and there were plenty of them. He was a good kid.
In todays terms he would be a new political leader on the scene. Perhaps an "accidental plane crash" would be arranged to rid the leaders of the undesirable.... However, in those days they hung people who were a threat to the leadership upon a cross, Roman style. As Jesus gathered more followers he had to be gotten rid of. Alas, that was the end of a person who, whether or not was a son of god or prophet, was a good-meaning person who tried to make a change for the better and help those in need.
Let us remmember his good intentions, beyond the scope of religions, power games and fights over the control of minds of populations, land and resources. I do not believe he was about all of this. He was a Jew, did not talk about new laws or changing religions. this came after his death. But regardless of this point- let's take a lesson and remember to feel charitable to the weak, to the sick, to the old- of any religion, and not in order to gain them as believers, or "to save their poor souls from the fire of hell"; let's help not for a gain or a profit to our side, our cult, our religion. Let's help for the sake of help, for the purity of justice and kindness. For our planet, for the joy of life and living. Have a good day!
